A perfect class for the middle of the week to get you moving, grooving, and recharged! Energetic music, dance exercises, and choreography makes this class a favourite among students of all ages. This progressive class gives participants the opportunity to participate in our Summer Funk 2019 show – ‘Shaadi Musical’ to be held on June 29th, 2019 at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey. During this session, the classes will be building on a routine every week, and collaboratively working on designing costumes and properties to be incorporated into their performance. Participants are advised to dress in comfortable activewear for class, and may wear running shoes or be bare foot as per comfort. Bringing a water bottle is encouraged! Do you love Kung Fu movies? Why not make one yourself? Acting Kung Fu is a class focused on staging Kung Fu choreographies live and for camera. Students will get into the basic ideas of non-verbal dialogue, the narrative of fights, the creation of fight choreographies, and will work with a guest cinematographer on their project. Another important part will be the preparation for and approach of a character. This physical class includes theory and praxis, and is not a stage combat course. First lesson is a trial lesson, and is free to attend.

Orange Boxes and City Futures is a community collaborative project that examines the orange fences that surround trees in construction zones in Vancouver. What do these orange boxes say about the city and its transformations? How do they make visible the future of a building or a neighborhood? Participate in this series of workshops to engage in art activities and discussions that relate to your neighbourhood and these fences. We will photograph and draw orange boxes, share food, create poetry, and discuss our ideas and experiences of change, focusing on our everyday life and sense of home. To conclude the workshops, we will create a final exhibition at the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre.

This cooking workshop will highlight the richness, complexity, and most importantly regionalism of Syrian food. This class will shed light the Syrian culinary hubs, namely Aleppo, Damascus, Latakia and Homs. This class will focus on what Tayybeh does best which is, homestyle food that feeds your body and soul and is reminiscent of your mum’s kitchen. Participants will get the chance to learn about the history of Syrian food, specialty ingredients, and the history of the city of focus for the day. Participants will also hear stories about the chefs and their cooking experiences back home and now in Canada and take part in preparing 3 items. The class would culminate in a little Syrian feast for everyone.
